Several much-anticipated films are set for release in summer of 2023. According to IMDB, these are the top ten summer releases everyone looks forward to. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, a superhero film, had a solid start to the month. The Flash is an upcoming superhero film. Additionally, later this month will see the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Wes Anderson’s star-studded Asteroid City. Then, in July, there was Oppenheimer and the first part of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning. In the last days of summer, DC Comics will release another superhero film titled “Blue Beetle.”
Barbie
In theaters July 21
There has been much curiosity about the long-awaited film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, with many people wondering what a satirical take on the most famous Barbie in the world would entail. The summer comedy has a wacky ensemble of Barbies, Kens, and more and was directed by Greta Gerwig from a story she co-wrote with partner Noah Baumbach. The list of celebrities appearing in Margot Robbie’s Barbie is long and impressive: Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, Will Ferrell, and many more.
The Little Mermaid
In theaters May 26
One of 2023’s most anticipated movies is The Little Mermaid. This live-action story starring Halle Bailey will be released over the Memorial Day holiday. The official Little Mermaid poster, portraying Halle Bailey as Ariel resting on a rock in the water, was released by Disney on March 8. Many of the original’s iconic songs are included in the adaption, directed by musical veteran Rob Marshall and has music by returning composer Alan Menken.
The 1989 original is well-known as more than simply another good Disney princess film among fans. It was the smash hit that the animation giant needed to regain its former prominence, and it was also the film that kicked off the famed “Disney Renaissance.” The groundbreaking animation, famous songs, and endearing characters have helped the animated picture become a crown gem in Disney’s ever-expanding House of Mouse empire.
Oppenheimer

The life of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), known as the “father of the atomic bomb” for his work on the Manhattan Project during World War II and subsequent struggles with the ethical implications of scientific progress, are depicted. Due to his membership in many organizations, Oppenheimer was labeled a communist in 1954. After being fired from his federal position, he went into exile but continued his career as a renowned theoretical physicist and educator.
Christopher Nolan’s first biopic, starring Cillian Murphy and a slew of A-list actors, will release this summer, ushering in a paranoid, high-stakes world of conflict. ‘Oppenheimer’ will also employ black-and-white IMAX film, which Kodak developed just for this summer blockbuster, making it a first for Nolan in more ways than one. After a long hiatus, Harrison Ford’s renowned Indiana Jones is finally returning to the big screen in the highly awaited picture “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” The new episode, directed by James Mangold (“Ford v. Ferrari,” “Logan”) and written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp and James Mangold, is set to be an action-packed journey across the world.
A new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has been published, and it promises to be a thrilling throwback adventure. The trailer promises fans old and new a good time with its blend of established and new characters. For years, rumors have circulated about what would happen in the fifth Indiana Jones movie. Still, Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to release an official plot summary. Trailers have already shown that the film would use time travel and de-aging technology to allow Ford to portray both a youthful Indy in 1944 and an older version of himself in 1969.
The Flash
In theaters June 16
Only a select few films will be able to generate as much excitement as DCU’s The Flash. The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, has had a rocky road from the beginning of production up to its imminent premiere next week. Miller’s personal life troubles even put him in prison at one point during filming, so this film has seen it all. Despite the obstacles, the studio gave the film its best to make it a success.
The whole cost of making the film, from script to screen, with an extensive advertising campaign, was a staggering $330 million. Kiersey Clemons plays Iris West, Maribel Verd plays Nora Allen, Sasha Calle plays Supergirl, and Ron Livingston plays Henry Allen in the forthcoming superhero picture alongside Miller, Keaton, and Affleck. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons) will make cameo appearances.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
In theaters June 9
Fans of the Transformers animated TV series know that Decepticons also live on Cybertron and have sought shelter on Earth. Those who have followed the Transformers franchise solely in live-action have only seen a small sample of Cybertron’s variety in the form of the Dinobots, who debuted in Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight. There are probably many more fantastic beings waiting to be found. The extraordinary characters will be introduced in the next film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which opens in theaters on June 9.
With the addition of new talent (hi, Anthony Ramos!) and relocation to Brooklyn, New York, the eighth live-action ‘Transformers’ adaption hopes to sidestep stale retreads. Since “SNL” veteran Pete Davidson and Cristo Fernández (“Ted Lasso”) are on the cast list, one has to question if the comic skills of the cast will be more important than the explosives in this new trilogy.

The film is classified as a science fiction romantic comedy, and at first glance, it may seem like another extravagant cinematic experience from Anderson’s playbook. But we’ll get to it in a second.
The latest Anderson film features an all-star cast that includes Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Margot Robbie, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Steve Carell, Jeff Goldblum, Liev Schreiber, and Oscar winner Hong Chau (The Whale).

Blue Beetle
In theaters August 18
As a DCMU project, Blue Beetle was started before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC. However, there are indications that it is being treated as more than a relic of the old Extended Universe. The film will now be released in theaters after debuting on HBO Max.
